Question / Problem
How do I replace or install the hopper temperature sensor?
Customers may also ask:
- Replace hopper temperature sensor
- Install hopper overheat sensor
- Hopper temp sensor replacement
- Overheat sensor installation
- Hopper sensor replacement
- High temperature sensor replacement
Answer / Procedure
The hopper temperature sensor monitors the temperature of the hopper and is part of the stove's safety system.
If the sensor requires replacement, follow the steps below.
Before You Begin
- Turn the stove OFF.
- Allow the stove to cool completely.
- Disconnect power from the stove.
Step 1 – Remove the Existing Sensor
Locate the hopper temperature sensor mounted in the hopper wall.
Carefully pull the sensor and attached wire through the mounting hole.
Step 2 – Apply High-Temperature RTV Silicone
Apply a thin, even bead of high-temperature RTV silicone around the body of the replacement sensor.
The silicone helps create an airtight seal between the sensor and the hopper wall.
Step 3 – Install the New Sensor
Insert the sensor into the mounting hole in the hopper wall.
Press the sensor firmly into place until it is fully seated.
Step 4 – Allow the Silicone to Cure
Allow the RTV silicone to cure completely according to the manufacturer's instructions before operating the stove.
Important Notes
- Use only high-temperature RTV silicone suitable for pellet stove applications.
- Ensure the sensor is fully seated to maintain an airtight seal.
- Avoid disturbing the sensor until the silicone has completely cured.
- An improperly sealed sensor may allow air leakage that can affect stove performance.
Escalate To Support If
Contact support if:
- The sensor will not seat properly in the hopper wall.
- The sensor wiring is damaged.
- The stove continues to display overheat or hopper temperature faults after replacement.
- Additional wiring or control board issues are suspected.
