Congratulations on your new ComfortBilt pellet stove.
Before lighting the stove for the first time, please review the installation manual and complete the startup checklist below. Proper startup procedures help ensure reliable ignition, safe operation, and long-term performance.
Step 1 – Clean and Inspect the Burn Pot
Before every startup:
✓ Remove all ash and leftover pellets
✓ Ensure all air holes are open and clear
✓ Inspect for obstructions
Important: A dirty burn pot is one of the leading causes of ignition failures.
Step 2 – Verify Burn Pot Position
The burn pot must:
- sit flat
- seat completely
- seal properly around the edges
Do not operate the stove if the burn pot is tilted, lifted, or improperly seated.
Improper seating may result in ignition failures, smoke, or poor combustion.
Step 3 – Check Door and Ash Pan Seals
Before startup:
✓ Close and latch the front door
✓ Ensure the ash pan is fully seated and closed
✓ Verify all seals are tight
Air leaks can affect ignition performance and combustion quality.
Step 4 – Fill Hopper
Use only approved premium wood pellets.
Recommendations:
- Clean, dry pellets only
- Avoid excessive fines or dust
- Close hopper lid fully after filling
Note: The hopper lid safety switch must engage properly.
Step 5 – Select Operating Mode BEFORE Startup
Select the desired operating mode before pressing ON.
Do not change modes after startup has begun.
Startup sequence:
- Select operating mode
- Press ON/OFF
- Exhaust fan starts
- Pellet feed begins
Changing modes during startup may interrupt operation.
Step 6 – Monitor the Ignition Cycle
Remain near the stove during startup.
Typical startup expectations:
- Flame appears within approximately 3–5 minutes
- Complete startup may require up to 10 minutes
Do not leave the appliance unattended during initial ignition.
Understanding Flame Appearance
Normal Flame
✓ Bright
✓ Active movement
✓ Yellow flame with slight blue base
A small blue flame near the burn pot typically indicates good airflow.
Light haze on the glass may be normal during operation.
Poor Flame Indicators
Warning signs:
- Dark flame
- Lazy movement
- Excess soot
- Heavy ash buildup
- Pellet accumulation
These conditions may indicate:
- airflow restriction
- dirty stove
- blocked exhaust
- maintenance requirements
Proper Shutdown Procedure
To shut down the stove:
- Press ON/OFF
- Display will show OFF / FIRE OFF
- Stove enters cooldown mode
During shutdown:
- Pellet feeding stops
- Fans continue operating
- Cooldown may last up to 30 minutes
Do not unplug the stove during shutdown.
Allow the shutdown cycle to complete fully before restarting.
Common Startup Mistakes
Avoid these common issues:
✗ Starting with a dirty burn pot
✗ Opening the door during ignition
✗ Leaving hopper lid open
✗ Changing modes after startup
✗ Unplugging during shutdown
If Ignition Fails
If ignition does not occur:
- Press ON/OFF
- Hold ON/OFF for approximately 5 seconds
- Wait for FIRE OFF and cooldown completion
- Allow stove to cool
- Return to Step 1 and restart startup procedure
Do not repeatedly restart without inspecting the burn pot first.
