Question: How much does it cost to operate a pellet stove?
Answer: Most stoves, at default settings, will consume between 1 - 5 lbs of pellets per hour of operation depending on how much heat is needed. Electricity consumption: 4.3 Amps during the ignition phase (about 8 mins) and then falls to 1.8 Amps of power during regular operation.
Most of our customers report using about 1.5 bags of pellets per day of continuous operation.
The average cost for a bag of premium wood pellets will vary, depending on availability, time of year, and location, but usually falls somewhere in the range of $4 - $9 per bag. (as of 2022).
As of the writing of this article (May 24, 2022) gas and oil commodity prices are rising, and are estimated to keep being elevated for the foreseeable future.
